Panama Canal Authority’s latest Advisory to Shipping

In its recent Advisory to Shipping No. A-32-2022 on October 5, 2022, the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) specifies a new positioning system requirement for transiting Neopanamax vessels beginning October 2023.

 

Based on this new requirement, Trelleborg Maring & Infrastructure developed SafePilot P3, a navigation and piloting solution designed primarily for Neopanamax vessels transiting the Panama Canal.

 

Evaluated and approved by the ACP (Autoridad del Canal de Panamá), this fixed piloting unit significantly improves existing systems by enabling the user to monitor the vessel’s movements in constrained waterways accurately, providing real-time ACP data to and from the pilot’s display, and as a result, minimizing the time and complexity involved in lengthy pilotage procedures.

 

SafePilot P3 delivers superior performance than a standard pilot plug and can be used globally on all ports and waterways in conjunction with the corresponding SafeCaptain App. The SafeCaptain App serves as a portable display for the pilot/captain that shows official sea charts with dedicated overlays for precise vessel navigation.
